About the blog:
This is my personal blog. Topics seem to be focusing on chickens, herbs, gardening, nature, homesteading, nature religion, heathenry, books, and farming.
I tried to start this up again in 2012, but changed my mind. I’m off to something new, but I’ll leave this here as a record of times gone by. I can be contacted through comments, if need be.
2019 – I think I’d like to try this blog again, even though wordpress seems about 10 years out of date now. We’ll see how it goes.
Hullo!
The last year or so I have been researching and gathering notes on a book that
currently has the working title of “Diaspora: Witchcraft in North America”
The idea is that there is a growing awareness of New World Traditions as well as more
and more people adapting European and British Traditions here in North America. But there is not a lot of well written resources and nothing that is comprehensive.
I’ve wanted to see something that celebrates the versatile, adaptable, melting
pot, DIY pioneer, colonial spirit for some time now. Something that says “You don’t have to be a lineaged British Trad Witch to be practicing something valid”
I have been thinking for some time now that this book should not be written solely by one
author, with one voice from one region. Even though I am well travelled, that still just
doesn’t cut it in my mind.
I want something smart, but accessible to anyone. Something that perhaps assumes you have read at least one Wicca 101 book before hand. I want not only academic stuff, rituals and spells but also personal experiences, and poetry; heavy on the folk lore folk tales and superstitions. Not as much focused on the how-to aspect, though there will be some of that as well.
Brendan Myers (my partner) has offered to help with grammar and allowing me to pick his brain in regards to the ins and outs of writing and publishing a book. It’s handy having a Pagan author in the house!
Introductions aside, here is why I am writing you:
I am asking North American Witches to share their stories. I want to have sections in the book, not unlike the “Book of English Magic” where there are personal experiences written by folks pertaining to the various topics and chapters. I am asking for something between 400 and 2,000 words.
This can any personal experience you wish to tell, how you define you Tradition or Path, a piece of folk lore that has hit home for you, a spell or charm, a ritual or rite, how your Path has evolved over time, your experiences in the Witchcraft community, the tale of a single experience or ritual, how you connect with the land you live on (etc) Mostly what I am hoping to capture is the reality of practicing Witchcraft in the New World; the variety, the many flavours, the beauty and the challenges.
Grammar and spelling would need to fixed up but otherwise I would keep you voice and not change your contribution. I’m afraid I cannot offer any money for the contribution (most Pagan authors make less than $2 a copy sold), I MAY be able to procure a free copy of the book for you. However you would be able to open a book and show off your words within. You would keep full copyrights to your work, of course.
If you are interested in contributing, please email me at juniper@walkingthehedge.net
Cheers!
